10 Tips You Should Know Before Venturing Into Commercial Bread Baking Business 

Bread Baking is very lucrative and a sustainable business for the family or anyone going into it. But many people see it as rocket science where you just invest and money starts coming. It's not like that.
Following are what You should know to run a successful bakery.

1. Understand the Market Demand
Don't start without studying your target market. You should know what type of bread and consumer patterns of the community you are selling to. Know what type of bread they are prepared to buy. Is it Ghana #tea bread, Nigeria #agegebread  , #butterbread  , #wheatbread  etc.

Don't sell what you like, sell what the consumers want

2. Learn Proper Bread Baking Skills.
Don't gamble with your money. You need to learn properly from an expert solid knowledge about bakery and baking skills and techniques.

Know how to use quality recipe, mixing methods, temperature control, and science behind bread baking ingredients.

Take a training course from an expert and understand how bread business works.

3. Have a Tested and Reliable Recipe
I travel widely for my physical training as well as that of my online classes. Some bakery owners enter into the business with guesswork.

You need to get a good recipe that's tested and has consistency.

Your taste, volume, texture and richness must be consistent. You should make bread that's the same everyday so you have loyal customers who would consistently but your products.

4. Know Your Startup Capital Requirements
Every bakery owner must know cost of equipments, ingredients, ovens, mixer and baking pans to packaging and branding before venturing into this business. It is important you understand the cost of running a bakery ahead.

5. Understand Government Regulations and Hygiene Requirements
It is important that you know the requirements for food business from the government. Get You will need to incorporate a company, get license and observe the right hygiene in the food industry.

6. Choose the Right Equipment for Your Scale
Check and know the right equipment for your takeoff. Don't buy things because they are cheap relative to your budget. Buy reliable equipment that will help your business.

7. Packaging and Branding Matters
Investing in branding will lift your business. Go extra miles to invest in clean, well design and attractive nylons will h labels.

Don't sell bread with plain nylon. Branding will help people remember your own products and it brings trust.

8. Build a Reliable Distribution Network
You don't have to expect people will come to you. You g to them. But string market networks 

What you need is timely delivery and good network.

9. Prepare for Challenges and Be Patient
Like everything in life, be patient. Just know that bread business is demanding but very profitable. Challenges will surely come, but be prepared to face it.

Lastly, resolve to improve daily and never give up on your goal.

WHY DESIGNING YOUR PANS, BRANDING YOUR NYLON IS IMPORTANT IN YOUR BREAD BAKING BUSINESS


Baking good bread in very important in the business of bread baking. But there are two  things that can take the first and third step in-between bread baking.

It's important to know how to bake bread that lasts longer, chewy, elastic, and firm. But your pan design and nylon printing is very import factors in successful bread marketing. Many bakers do neglect this.

Pan: From Wenchi, Techiman, Kasoa, Bawku, Ho, Tarkwa, Walewale, Takoradi etc in Ghana, Lagos, Asaba, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Warri, Awka etc where I have visited to train people physically clients in  my One-On-One or group classes, it's all the same. People use the same shape and type of pans. And some even use local nylon(rubber) or plan, unprinted nylon. 

When you make pans for your bread, make it unique. I have gutters on my pan cover (lid) and it shows on my bread when baked. This is optional anyways. Some people have their signature on their bread.

NYLON PRINTING: Branding is a good way to market your bread. You need repeated customers who would know your brand to buy again and again. 

Print quality, unique nylon with your brand name. Don't use other people's nylon. That's business suicide. You are promoting other people's brand. It's also a crime. Don't use local nylon to poorly package your bread.

There are processes of printing your nylon.  And you need to understand it as a bakery owner. 

First you need to produce your Stereo and then print with your stereo anytime you want to print.

Always hold and keep your stereo with you after printing and not the printer holding it as they could print more and start selling your nylon to other bakers.

3 sure ways to make money in your bread baking Business


Bread business is one of the sure daily income business worldwide. It s Lucrative, very Lucrative. But you must understand how the most important aspect of the business.

It's not palatable. Every other day, I receive messages on bread baking challenges from fans and readers of my blog. Fundamentally, people want to make money from their business of bread baking. 

You wonder why other bakeries are thriving while some are bleeding with debts and frustrations. The difference is in knowing what works. 

These are my three basic areas you must have sound knowledge with practical implementations to make success in your bread baking business. 

1. RIGHT  RECIPE: Don't just bake bread. Don't be a follower. Bake what you can sell again and again. Be the best. Understand how bread baking works. Get the best recipes. A little change can bring a tremendous success. Your bread should be good, rich, last long and tasty. You should be different in the market. We bake from N100 bread to Jumbo and it goes off as we bake.

Having a good recipe is what most bakeries lack. Don't just start a bakery without having or developing an expert recipes with a mentor. I encounter those who started bread business without owning a recipe and end up getting frustrated, then starting again with learning how to bake and develop their unique recipe.

2. BREAD DOUGH SCALING AND COSTING: 

Bread Dough Scaling and Costing: So I was conducting a One on One training at Bububura, Cape Coast Region of Ghana, just after Kasoa, a suburb or  Accra. 

I do one thing at all time when I am running trainings, especially Physical Classes in Lagos and Accra. I buy bread within that area to compare prices, weight and what profit my client is capable of making with analysis and inferences. This is where science of bread profiting comes in. 

So a bread looks huge, very big and thick and sells for Ghc25, people are buying and are happy. The baker feels good with emotions that they like her bread. Unknown to her, she is not making profit. She is baking and selling at loss. 

This is what I teach mainly in my classes. It is not enough to bake good bread. You have to make profit.

There is a bakery in Port Harcourt, Rivers state Nigeria I have helped to get on the right road. I was taken aback when I got to know they were running at a loss. Bread of N1,000 was being sold for N850.

There is a bakery is Ikorodu, Lagos, they were selling N300 bread for N150 and I can tell you people were rushing their bread. 

The owner told me excitedly that their bread was selling very fast, but the only issue is profit making was lacking. When he enrolled for a one on one class with me in my baking Studio, I requested that he bring his bread pans on our second day. I was startled they were baking and selling bread like an NGO. The people were buying not because the bread was good but because, they were selling at loss, N150 reduction. 

Let me state this obviously more: Bread scaling and Costing will give your bakery the life it needs in terms of finance.

3. MARKETING ABILITY:  There many bakers with good bread, good costing but with poor marketing and selling abilities. And majority are not ready to learn how to sell.

Marketing your product is the bone of any business. From branding to have your bread in the market place, nothing is compete unless there is exchange of money for your goods.

Opening a bakery does not mean it will be successful. That's not a guarantee. Tell the people even if they don't care, what makes your bread different. Be aggressive and crazy about your product. Take it everywhere, talk about it on social media, every physical events, and be an ambassador of your product. 

I have hawked my bread in Accra Circle, Sapeiman, Fise areas in Ghana.

I have hawked my bread in Lagos..I am proud of doing that. My University degrees cant prevent me from selling my product the way I want. Skills gives money. I am not my degrees. 

If you can't sell your product, why will others sell it for you.
